The world seems to be inundated with superhero movies and TV shows at them moment, especially Marvel and DC ones, and in my opinion they are getting a little old. That said however, this was an interesting opening episode, Grant Gustin is very convincing as the fledgeling hero just discovering his powers, and the introduction of the Mother story arc was effective. Definitely worth continuing.

The whole Norma being a religious icon thing is getting a little old now. She used to be a sweet old mute but now she annoys me every time she is on the screen. Crazy Eyes writing erotica however is a master stroke, it shows her inner thought process not just in terms of the finished material but in how she reacts to the other inmates in a way that hasn't been seen since she was V's lapdog.

Slightly hard to follow if you aren't into the source material (my girlfriend found it very hard to watch) but the episode is a perfect introduction to Francis Underwood and his brewing ambition, which is almost a character unto itself. Masterfully directed by the unquestionable genius David Fincher, this pilot throws you head first into a series that is entertaining right from the get go.

This episode gets a 10 from me for the ending alone. Miss Rosa putting an end to V in such a spirited and satisfying way was the ultimate end for what has been a brilliant series. I prefer this season to season one simply for the fact that the main character now seems to be the prison itself, with all the character threads intertwining more and Piper taking a bit of a back seat.

The mounting tension in the series is really hitting all the right notes. The acting is brilliant (Rick, Darryl and Merle especially steal the show in this episode) and you genuinely feel the terror as you sit at the edge of your seat, just waiting for the next flash of red to hit the screen.

Im sure it gets better, as I'm told almost daily that it does, but the first episode didn't grab me as much as I would expect a long running serial to. It was well set, and well acted, and I will give the rest of it a chance, but so far I'm a little underwhelmed.
